Is the MB Quart PAB5400 5 channel amp able to push four speakers and a small sub?
Most people say its better to get a seperate 4 channel amp for speakers and a another amp for a sub. I only want a small sub so would this be able to work. Also how many watts would be best with this amp. Do the watts on the sub need to be higher then the amp, so the sub doesn't blow?
- 5-Channel Power Amplifier
- 55-300W RMS
- 55W x 4CH + 200W x 1CH @ 4Ohms
- 80W x 4CH + 300W x 1CH @ 2Ohms
- MAX Power 300W x 1CH (Mono Bridged at 1Ohms)
- Frequency Response : 10 Hz - 150kHz
- Signal To Noise Ratio : >72 dB
I have MB Quart 6x9's and Pyle 4x6 speakers by the way.
This amp was designed to run a small system as you suggested. Although people will tell you that it is preferred to run seperate amps for your speakers & subs, a 5 channel amp has some advantages. Less to wire ... less space to allocate ... etc, etc.
When selecting your single sub, try to match RMS ratings as closely as possible. Look for a dual 4 ohm sub (that you can wire each voice coil in parallel for a 2 ohm load to squeeze as much from the sub channel on your amp as possible.) with an RMS rating of about 250-300W. There are a ton of subs at this power handling level, just pick your favorite one.
