is no midrange in a speaker bad?
i just bought two Acoustic Research AR 14 speakers and the specs say they have a woofer and high range, is that bad, does that mean i wont hear lyrics very well?
The AR14 is a 2-way speaker ... which means it has two speaker cones ...one for low and midrange frequencies and one for upper midrange and treble frequencies. 3-way speakers have three cones for the bass, mid and treble, respectively. While a 3-way is possibly preferable a well designed 2-way system can be very good. There are advantages and disadvantages to the two approaches.
AR-14s have a pretty good reputation.
The only sure way to tell is to listen. Play some female vocal music and the presence or absence of good midrange will be apparent.
