If i bought floor standing speakers, do you rekon i would be able to connect them via a 3.5mm jack?
Actually the answer isn't really no - it is yes. However although you can connect them via 3.5mm jack you will not like the results.
Why? Floor standing speakers are not as sensitive as speakers designed for plugging into 3.5 mm jacks. Therefore the sound level output will be very low - in other words the volume will be very soft. That is why everyone else is telling you that you will need to hook it up to an amplifier or receiver. You will not get much sound out of them unless you do. If you really want to use the floor standing speakers you could buy an amp and hook the 3.5mm connector to them and then wire the speakers to the amp.
