does anyone know how to wire a general electric dryer with the 4 wire system?
I have a general electric dryer with a 4 wire power cord and I am trying to make sure that it is wired correctly.I do have the manual but,its not clear to me.any help please thanks.
If you can post, or email a photo, of the terminal block on the back of the dryer, we can tell you if its wired correctly.
General rule of thumb, though, is the terminal block will have the black wire on the left, the red wire on the right, and the white wire in the middle. Sometimes, the middle terminal on the block will be a silver color, while the black and red will be brass (or gold) colored. The green wire should be run to the green screw off to the side.
If there was a grounding strap in place with an original 3 prong cord, then the strap needs to be removed.
Here are some typical arrangements -
this one is a pic with the ground strap disconnected - http://www.american-appliance.com/images/image_data/ge_dryer_cord_prong_small.jpg
Here is another link showing how to convert a dryer from a 3 prong cord to a 4 prong, with photos -
