how to use old hi-fi speakers?
I have a LG mini hifi system which got defunct but I have its 2 excellent speakers(with woofer and tweeter built in) with me. Now I want to use them to get the same quality sound as before. Is it possible, If yes, How? I even dont know that the speakers have built in amplifier or not.
If it was a mini hifi system then chances are the speakers are not amplified. But that doesn't mean that all will go perfectly with a typical stack of audio components. Generally most of the mini systems use 16 ohm speakers (ohms is a measure of resistance - the higher the number the more resistance). Most full-size components are rated for 8 ohm speakers. So if you plug in the speakers from your mini system the full-size amplifier will only be producing half of the power it would otherwise output. There should be a pair of wires that lead from the back of the speakers, or maybe a male RCA-type plug. If that plug is there you can clip it off, strip back the insulator a half inch or so and there are your wires that you insert in the speaker outputs of a stereo receiver. You can just plug them in - it won't hurt the amp or the speakers - just not an ideal setup.
