Converting an imac from a workstation to a stand alone?
HELLLLLP!! I recently purchased several imac desktop computers at a surplus auction. They have the OS-9 system on them. BUT, they're currently set up as workstations tied to a remote servor which I did NOT get. Is there anyway to convert them back to stand alone computers? I need DETAILED instructions how to do this. Thanks.
I don't have any experience with OS 9 myself, but perhaps upgrading them to a relatively early version of OS X (perhaps 10.2 or 10.3) and formatting them in the process would be a good idea. If you wipe them clean instead of just upgrading the existing OS, you won't have the old settings hanging around to bug you, and you'll have the benefit of being able to use more recent software. As for finding an old version of OS X, perhaps looking on a place like eBay would help with that. (To have it erase the Mac's hard drive before installing, there should be a button at some stage of the setup wizard that lets you customize the installation method — I don't remember what exactly it would be labeled, but it shouldn't be too hard to notice.) Best of luck!
