How come my RCA stereo system will only play certain Cd's?

I have had my stereo system for about 4 years now and it has always worked fine. Now if i go to put in a Cd (which i know works because it plays in my other systems) it will just keep saying "read" and then eventually go onto another Cd. It is in my room and is in the same place it has always been.

check the CDs maybe they're defected or the format isn't compatible with the system
