Sony Receiver "Protect" mode. How to stop it?
I've had two Sony receivers throughout the past 5 or 6 years, and both have given me the "protect" click and reset whenever I try and listen to something moderately loud. Currently, I have to Bose 301's and 201's and a (kinda crappy) Sony center and subwoofer. I've checked the connections over and over... even moved a few times and had to re-hook up the entire system.
Could it be my receiver doesn't output enough for my speakers? or vice versa? I don't really have the means to open up the unit myself, but looking for advice. I'd appreciate any suggestions! Thanks!
The reason the "Protection" mode clicks in is that you are trying to use more power than the amplifier can handle. This is to save your receiver from burning itself out. You'll have to get a more powerfel receiver to handle the loadness you so desire. Go online to Sony and enter the model number of your receiver and see how many watts it is capable of producing in each channel. A deceent receiver is about 100 Watts per channel. Hope this will help you.
